Let’s start 2024 by checking out the new “Color of the Year” announcements from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams. I always enjoy seeing the Color of the Year announcements, and while I may not actually use the colors for for projects, it’s fun to check out newly popular colors and the associated color palettes that go with them.
For 2024, the Benjamin Moore Color of the Year is Blue Nova 825. It’s a beautiful, medium blue that will work well with off-whites and grays. As illustrated on the Benjamin Moore website, Blue Nova looks great with terracotta/rust colors, beige and tan, soft yellows and lighter shades of blue. It’ll work well in any room of the house, in many different types of homes. I can see it working well in a Northeastern Colonial antique home, a coastal home, or a house with mountain views. Even though it’s a deep and saturated color, it’s not bright or domineering. Per the Benjamin Moore website description of Blue Nova, its “depth and intrigue are balanced by an undercurrent of reassurance. This alluring mid-tone features an enchanting duality, capturing the spotlight with endlessly classic appeal.” Nice!
Sherwin Williams’ 2024 Color of the Year is also a variation of blue, SW 6239 Upward. Very light and breezy! I can envision using this color for projects in coastal settings. It’s nice and light and will complement a variety of off-whites, light grays, dark grays and dark blue. From Sherwin Williams, it’s a “breezy, blissful blue” and “a sunny day shade for spaces brimming with positive energy, creative thinking, and total contentment.” I agree! Sherwin Williams pairs it with some of my favorite colors that I frequently recommend to clients: Snowbound, Drift of Mist, and Gale Force. Great choice! I can forecast with confidence that I’ll use “Upward” on a project soon.
