I’ve been putting together some color and fabric schemes that include lots of red. I haven’t done anything with red in quite a while – blue, green and grays have been more typical the past year or so – and it was really interesting gathering all sorts of red fabrics to work with a client’s berry red leather sofa and lounge chairs and warm, cocoa colored walls.
From stripes to paisleys to leaf patterns, I created four interesting palettes for the client to choose from. Although red is, of course, a warm color that helps cheer up the fall and winter months, these red color schemes will work year round to provide bright and beautiful accents. Each scheme features different tones of red, from muted to bold.
Coordinating colors in variations of brown, gold and green play a supporting role and contribute to the classic and upbeat look. The fabrics are great options for draperies, valances, toss pillows or upholstery.
Although neutral colors have been very popular for interiors, using red paint for walls in a powder room, family room or library creates a cozy and vibrant feeling that is especially welcoming in winter months but is successful year round. Just in time for Valentine’s Day!
