A Blend of Commercial and Residential Interior Design

A Blend of Commercial and Residential Interior Design

I recently completed consulting on a large scale, multi-unit condominium and townhouse project in the Boston area that combined aspects of commercial interior design and residential interior design.

Commercial – the project required compliance with fire code and ADA/handicap accessibility codes, plus use of materials such as fire rated carpet and fabrics, and Energy Star rated LED lighting, for all public areas, lobbies and hallways.

Residential – I specified cabinets, countertops, tile, paint colors and lighting for the condos and townhouses, in addition to selecting furniture, area rugs, window treatments, art and accessories for the model units. I also specified exterior components such as roof shingles, siding types and colors, trim details, decking and pavers.

It’s very satisfying to work on a project with the architect and builder from the very beginning with blueprints and construction documents, to the very end, seeing everything I specified and selected set in place as the finished product. The project move along smoothly and was a success!
