Cool Coastal Design

Cool Coastal Design

Here on Cape Cod, clients love to play up the coastal setting with color, art, and accessories. I focus on the philosophy of  “coastal but not cute,” meaning that we can play up Cape Cod homes’ seaside settings without going overboard and without looking like furniture stores or gift shop displays.

For new construction or renovations, tile adds to the beachy feeling for a fun look that’s practical, too. Accents abound with an almost unlimited array of mosaic tiles available at local shops like The Tilery at Trees Place in Orleans (check them out – the staff is very knowledgeable and generous with their time, and the selection is fantastic).

Light colored countertops can help accentuate the foggy, misty, “ocean-y” side of Cape Cod or other coastal settings. Light painted cabinet finishes like off-white or very light gray add to the theme, as do sandy, beige-y, washed wood stains on maple or oak.

Off-white cabinet finishes always work in a coastal setting

Grays work nicely, too

Fabrics and area rugs play their part in a coastal design theme. Beautiful & fun fabrics and area rugs abound. I select from unique trade resources, and I tailor every selection to each individual client and project for specialized and personalized results.
