A Happy and Colorful New Year

A Happy and Colorful New Year

With the start of a new year, I’ve been mulling over new plans and goals. For much of my blogging, I’m planning to focus on color in design. Color plays such an important role in our lives, whether it’s in our natural and outdoor surroundings, our interior surroundings, our clothing, our food, or through art and other media.

With regard to interior design, color obviously plays a huge role. From kitchens and baths to family rooms and bedrooms, color evokes response and emotion. From overall backgrounds to stand-out accents, color choices are important and highly personal. Several of my recent projects have definitely moved away from neutrals and have focused on personal, more subjective color choices for clients. Paint companies or color guides are definitely playing up color this year, with Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year “Shadow” or Sherwin Williams’ “Poised Taupe” or Pantone’s “Greenery”. These are all bold and assertive colors with lots of personality.

My blogs over the next several months will discuss color and all of the factors and solutions that come into play when choosing colors, whether for wall paint, tile, fabrics, draperies, furniture, and much more. I’m looking forward to an exploration of many colors and how they can add to successful design projects!
