I met with a new client last week to discuss working with her on an extensive home construction/renovation project, and she asked me “So, how will this work?” She is starting up a project that will include a complete kitchen renovation, new bathrooms plus renovations of existing bathrooms, a new mud room, new flooring, new lighting, and new paint colors throughout. I described all of the things I’ll assist with on the project:
- Kitchen layout, cabinet style and finishes, counter top material, tile selection and design for backsplash, and hardware selection
- Bathroom cabinet styles and finishes, counter top materials, tile selections and designs
- Plumbing fixture selections for kitchen and bath design
- Lighting selections throughout, including dining room chandelier, kitchen pendant lights, bathroom vanity lights or wall sconces, surface mounted lighting fixtures, and exterior fixtures
- Paint color selection and coordination throughout the house, creating a color palette and consistent color scheme throughout the home
- Furniture placement, using both new furniture that we’ll select and furniture that the client currently owns
- Window treatment selections
- Art and accessories placement
After we discussed all that, she said “Wow – you’ll be my design coach!” I liked that, because in essence, a coach provides guidance, expertise, support and encouragement. I’m happy to play that role for clients to achieve great end results on all of my projects.
