A recent kitchen and bath renovation project focused on the color blue to play up the client’s love for that color. Blue/grey slate tiles were laid on the kitchen floor in interesting patterns and size variations, and soft Wedgewood blue cabinets with beadboard detailing created a casual feeling. We used Blue Pearl granite on the countertops. It may sound like a lot of blue, but the effect is low key, happy and welcoming. Sunny yellow and white backsplash tiles added a cheery note, and pendant lighting with amber colored shades added whimsy. Even on dark, rainy days, the new kitchen is bright and upbeat due to the fun color palette and layers of lighting.
In the first floor bath, we used a traditional hexagonal mosaic floor tile that features cobalt blue accents, and the walls were painted a bold cobalt blue. Against a white vanity, white Thassos marble countertop and white tub, the results are striking and unique.
To cap it all off, for the guest bath, we found a beautiful light blue, watercolor effect porcelain tile for the floor and the shower, and found an unusual “Azul Tropical” marble for the counter top and for a shelf/bench in the shower. Azul Tropical marble features soft blue and blue-green colors with foamy white and grey areas that are reminiscent of sea foam at the beach. Accented by a clear blue glass mosaic border, the effect will be light and surf-like with lots of movement.
The materials we used reflect the client’s love for the many different shades of blue and help make her home feel special and unique, designed just for her.
